Theory

• Camshaft Operation:The camshaft is a mechanical component of the engine that rotates,enabling the engine to function by opening and closing valves in time with the crankshaft.It is driven by a chain,a belt,or a set of gears from the crankshaft.The camshaft has many small cams with appropriate positions on the shaft that transmit effort to the valve through the cams and metal pushrods.This mechanism opens and closes the intake and exhaust valves at the proper timing to input the air-fuel mixture into the combustion chamber and output the combustion gas into the outside.

• Valve Mechanism Components:The valve mechanism consists of the camshaft,pushrods,valves(intake and exhaust),rocker arms,and valve springs.The camshaft's rotation opens the valves at the correct time,allowing the air-fuel mixture to enter the cylinder and the exhaust gases to exit.

• Valve Timing:The timing of the valve operation is critical for the engine's efficiency.The intake valve allows the air-fuel mixture into the cylinder at the precise moment,and the exhaust valve allows the spent gases to escape at the precise moment.This timing is managed by the camshaft and its interaction with the pushrods,rocker arms,and valves.

• Valve Function:The intake and exhaust valves work harmoniously to expel hot combustion gases and let in fresh air,maintaining a continuous and steady airflow into the combustion chamber.This process helps in keeping the engine cool and running efficiently.

• Preventing Backflow:The valves fit perfectly and tightly against their seats to form a strong barrier that prevents gases from escaping or re-entering the combustion chamber.The camshaft controls the timing and manages the opening and closing of the valve,which is key to preventing any unwanted backflow.

• Valve Types and Operation:There are different types of valve operating mechanisms,such as side valve mechanism and overhead valve mechanism.In the overhead valve mechanism,valves are placed overhead on the combustion chamber.The camshaft's rotation causes the cam lobe to push the tappet upward,which in turn pushes the pushrod and rocker arm,opening the valve against the spring's tension.

These principles outline the fundamental operation of the distribution valve system in an automotive engine,ensuring the efficient flow of gases and the overall performance of the engine.
